As a result of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit it led to change in the way they lived their lives.
Acts 2:42 ‘They continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.’
There were 4 lifestyle changes that resulted. These were not just ‘flash in the pan’ changes. The Bible tells us that they ‘continued steadfastly’. That means that it was an ongoing thing that they did and they did this with conviction and devotion. Some translations use the term ‘devoted themselves’ as it tries to convey the message. Here are the four things:
- ‘…..in the apostles’ doctrine….’ They were not swayed by other teachings doing the rounds. They were not tossed around by every wind of doctrine. They stayed true to what the apostles had taught them.
- ‘….. and fellowship….’ Fellowship is a vital component of our spiritual lives. It is not something to be neglected.
- ‘…. and in breaking bread….’ The times when we have communion are very important and they remain a constant reminder of what God has done for us. Don’t miss these occasions when your church celebrates this and have communion in your small groups and in your homes.
- ‘…. and in prayers ….’ Don’t neglect your prayer life. Make this vital component a part of your life.
