If we are going to bring glory to God, we need to know what that means. The dictionary gives the following definition: ‘to make glorious by bestowing honor, praise, or admiration.’
So glorifying God is to give Him praise and honour. To glorify God is just our lifting up His name in the world and magnifying Him in the eyes of others. What does it mean to magnify? To enlarge in fact or in appearance.
Philippians 1:20 ‘Christ will be magnified’
This is the reason why we are here: to make God visible, in fact and in reality to those around us.
There are two aspects to God’s glory:
- The glory that God has in Himself. Within God is His own glory. The Bible speaks of God as the ‘GOD OF GLORY’
- The glory that we give God. Here again we see the reason for our living.
1 Chronicles 16:29 ‘Ascribe the Lord the glory that is due His name … Worship the Lord in the splendor of His holiness.’
1 Corinthians 6:20 ‘Glorify God in your body and in your spirit.’
We glorify God by the way we live. We glorify God as we allow our spirits to be full of worship and honour towards Him.
