GOD WANTS TO PROSPER US GIVING US ENOUGH AND TO SPARE!
Deuteronomy 28:5 “Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl [store].”
- Our basket and our store speaks of our provisions and our resources.
- God is obviously interested in supplying our needs.
- This is clearly stated by the apostle Paul:
Philippians 4:19: “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
- God wants us to have enough so that we can share with others!
2 Corinthians 9:8 “And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, have an abundance for every good work.”
Deuteronomy 28:8 and 11 shed even further light on this.
Verse 8 “The LORD will command the blessing on you in your storehouses … ”
Verse 11 “And the LORD will grant you plenty of goods, in the fruit of your body, in the increase of your livestock, and in the produce of your ground, in the land of which the LORD swore to your fathers to give you.”
When God commands His blessing on our storehouses and makes us plenteous in goods, then we certainly will have enough and to spare.
GOD WANTS TO BLESS US IN OUR TRAVELS!
Verse 6 “Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out.”
GOD WANTS TO BLESS US WITH VICTORY OVER OUR ENEMIES!
Verse 7 “The LORD will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways.
To Israel, their enemies were the tribes or nations around them, that threatened their security, national integrity and existence.
By God’s grace we are able to overcome our greatest enemies:
- THE WORLD by setting our affections on things above!
Colossians 3:1-3 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
- THE FLESH by walking in the Spirit!
Galatians 5:16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
- THE DEVIL, or any demons, by resisting them.
James 4:7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
GOD WANTS TO BLESS ALL WE SET OUR HANDS TO DO!
Verse 8 “The LORD will command the blessing on you in your storehouses and in all to which you set your hand, … “
GOD WANTS TO BLESS US BY ESTABLISHING US AS HIS HOLY PEOPLE!
Verse 9 “The LORD will establish you as a holy people to Himself, just as He has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the LORD your God and walk in His ways.”
1 Peter 2:9 explains it to us from a New Testament perspective.
“But you [Christians] are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;”
THE LORD WANTS US TO ENJOY THE BLESSING OF HIS NAME!
Verse 10 “Then all peoples of the earth shall see that you are called by the name of the LORD, and they shall be afraid [the Hebrew also suggests respect or to revere] of you.”
The early believers were known as “Christians” or “Christ’s ones”.
Acts 11:26 And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. So it was that for a whole year they assembled with the church and taught a great many people. And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.
Christians can exercise the authority delegated to us in Jesus’ name!
Mark 16:17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;
THE LORD WANTS TO BLESS US WITH PHYSICAL RAIN!
Verse 12 “The LORD will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. …”.
THE LORD WANTS TO BLESS US SO THAT WE CAN LOAN TO OTHERS AND DO NOT NEED TO BORROW!
Verse 12 ” … You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow.”
THE LORD WANTS TO BLESS US BY BRINGING US OUT ON TOP!
Verse 13 “And the LORD will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath, … “
* THIS IS OF COURSE CONDITIONAL!
Verse 13 ” … if you heed the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them.”
Failure to obey the voice of the Lord brings us under the CURSE and in Deuteronomy 28:15-48 you can read all about the curses. They are dreadful. The problem is that we do not have the ability to obey God without fail. We have all disobeyed the voice of the Lord many times. That implies that we are all under the curse.
Our greatest need therefore is to be delivered from the curse, and praise God this is exactly what happens when we meet Jesus and place our faith in Him alone to save us from our sins. Not only does He deliver us from the curse, He also opens up to us all of the blessings of the Old Testament as well as the blessings of the New – of life under the control of the Holy Spirit..
Galatians 3:13-14 “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), [Refering to the death of Jesus on the cross]. That the blessing of Abraham [that which God promised in the Old Testament] might come upon the Gentiles [on us] in Christ Jesus [who are in union with Christ],63 that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. [that we may receive the baptism and live under the control of the Holy Spirit]”
