FRUITFULNESS AND BEING PRUNED
It is clear that the vine also gets pruned. Fruitful vines need to be pruned to stay fruitful. It seems that as we go along we pick up baggage. Perhaps pride or a sense of self-fulfillment. This needs to be constantly removed so that whatever growth or fruit there is, is the result of what God has done and not because of anything that we have done.
John 15:1-2 I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.
Pruning is an easy thing and it happens to the fruitful. But there is a purpose – so that we will be even more fruitful! That is God’s plan for you and me.
FRUITFUL THROUGHOUT OUR LIVES
We can be fruitful throughout our lives. Society tells us that we have a fruitful period, usually when we are young, and then we need to retire. It is not like this with God. If we are connected to God then we can be fruitful at every stage of life or in every circumstance of life.
Psalm 92:12-15 But the godly shall flourish like palm trees and grow tall as the cedars of Lebanon. For they are transplanted into the Lord’s own garden and are under his personal care. Even in old age they will still produce fruit and be vital and green. This honors the Lord and exhibits his faithful care. He is my shelter. There is nothing but goodness in him!
Being fruitful honours God. Being fruitful is important to God.
