1 Samuel 3:17 ‘What is the thing that the LORD has said unto you?’
The next morning Eli is up and goes straight to Samuel and asks this question. Eli wanted to know what God had said to Samuel. God was no longer communicating with Eli the priest and he knew that God had spoken to Samuel. He wanted to know what the message was that Samuel received. Often when we don’t seem to hear from the Lord for ourselves we run around looking for a word from someone else. It should be our preference to hear firsthand the whispers and the voice of our Saviour and our God. We should desire to hear directly more than we should desire to hear from others. Sometimes we don’t hear because we have not done or responded to the last thing He said to us. Perhaps we are hoping for a different or easier message? My question to you is ‘What has God said to you?’ Is there something that you felt He told you to do or to stop doing? Is there something that has been left undone? We want to see revival touch our church and our nation. My late father used to say that his definition of revival is a ‘return to obedience.’ We need to be ready and willing to obey the leading and the voice of God in our lives. We should do what He tells us to do. Is there something you know He told you to do, but you have not done it for whatever reason? There is another dimension. Perhaps God gave you a word for someone else. Have you ever had the courage to give them that word? Or did that word just die within you. Perhaps you sat next to someone in church and felt you had a word for them, but you just could not bring yourself to turn to them and to tell them. Do you realize that that person could have come that very day hoping for that word that you failed to deliver? The Lord wants to use you to bring His message to others. As sons and daughters of God we have all been given a message to share!
2 Corinthians 5:17 -21 ‘Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.’
We have received a message and there are those that need to hear the message. Just like He used Samuel to bring a message, so He can also use you to bring the message He gives to someone else.
Prayer: Lord, speak to me. May I hear the wonder of your voice in my daily life. Use me to be a vessel for You to speak into the lives of others. Move us forward as we listen and obey so that we can live in revival today and in the future. Amen.
