You and I should pursue His Kingdom. But what exactly is His Kingdom? We should pursue His Kingdom, His kingship, His sovereignty, His authority, His rule, both in the world, and in the hearts of men.
John 15:15 ‘I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.’
The Kingdom is everything to do with the business of heaven. We should get busy with the business of heaven and the business of our Master and King. Jesus understood this as a very young person.
Luke 2:49 And He said to them, ‘How is it that you sought me? knew you not that I must be about my Father’s business?’
You and I should follow His example and ‘be about our Father’s business!’ In the Darby Bible Translation it says it this way: ‘And he said to them, Why [is it] that ye have sought me? Did ye not know that I ought to be [occupied] in my Father’s business? Let us get busy with His business, let us get occupied with our Father’s business.
THE PROMISE
The promise that flows out of this way of living is unparalleled.
Matthew 6:33 ‘But seek you first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.’
The promise is that ‘all these things’ will be added to you. What others may hope to achieve through hard work and chance, you can be guaranteed of by way of a promise. We can know that every other issue, concern and need will be met and provided for from the One who never breaks His promises. The things we need can flow out of the promise we have. You don’t need to look for them, you don’t need to pursue them and you don’t need to hunt them down, they will simply come to you. They will be added. One blessing on top of another. The blessings and the favour of God coming to you without you needing to worry or concern yourself about it – that is what you can expect. The Greek word translated as “shall be added” works a lot like the English “to hand over.” So as you and I seek His Kingdom first, all these things that we need and desire, will be handed over to us. If we are taking care of God’s business as a priority, then He will take care of our business as promised.
