Acts 2:43 ‘Everyone was filled with awe….’ (NIV)
Acts 2:43 ‘And fear came upon every soul…’ (KJV)
This was a reverential fear and wonder for God. It was an understanding of just how great God was and is. When the Holy Spirit comes on us, we too will have a revelation of who God is. As a result we will not ‘play the fool’ with God. We will take Him seriously and give Him the glory and honour that is due to Him.
Notice it says that this effect touched everyone and every soul.
THE HOLY SPIRIT COMES AND THERE ARE SIGNS AND WONDERS.
Acts 2:43 ‘… many wonders and signs performed by the apostles.’ (NIV)
The outflow of the moving of the Holy Spirit is signs and wonders. Signs and wonders are not the goal, as some people may think, but rather it was the natural outflow or result of the moving of God’s Spirit. As we allow the Holy Spirit to be poured on us this can also be a reality in our lives. Pursue and desire the Holy Spirit and the rest will happen by the Spirit.
THE HOLY SPIRIT COMES AND THE RESULT IS PRACTICAL CONCERN FOR ONE ANOTHER.
Acts 2:44-45 ‘All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.’
As a result of the touch of the Holy Spirit they seem to lose their selfishness. No longer are they selfish and no longer do they just care for themselves, but there is this sudden outward focus. We live in a world that is tremendously selfish and self is the god of the day. The Holy Spirit changed all this. Their hearts are touched, they are changed and the focus shifts from self to others. It was not just token help but it was real practical, substantial help. They even sold their properties to make this help possible. It was sacrificial help and no one complained. They did it out of a changed heart and only the Holy Spirit can do this within the hearts of man.
