WHEN THE HOLY SPIRIT COMES WE SUDDENLY REALISE HOW MUCH WE NEED GOD.
Acts 2:37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”
Just prior to this people had been cynical and accused the Apostles of being drunk and now they were changed. Gone was the joking and gone were the opinions. Suddenly they were asking the really important question: ‘What shall we do?’ When the Holy Spirit comes upon us and our hearts are touched, a shift takes place within us and we realise just how desperately we need God. The conversation suddenly shifts. Now they are serious. Now they realise what is important and vital to life: ‘What does God expect of us?’ It is a sign of the working of God’s Holy Spirit when people feel the need to change the way they think or the way they do things and become serious about getting things right in the eyes of God. When the Holy Spirit stirs within the human heart and that degree of earnestness arises, then change becomes a very real prospect. When we realise how much we need God, change comes easy. If we have not reached this point, changes becomes academic. This is the work that the Holy Spirit does. We need the Holy Spirit to work within us to bring us to this point.
THE HOLY SPIRIT COMES AND GIVES US THE GUIDANCE WE NEED
Acts 2:38-40 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off – for all whom the Lord our God will call.” With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.”
