TRUSTING GOD FOR THE IMPOSSIBLE!

Daily Thought

Your Word for 26 July 2024

Psalm 143:10
‘Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God. May Your gracious Spirit lead me forward on a firm footing.’

It is easy to trust God when things are going the way we had planned. It’s easy to trust God while there is light at the end of the tunnel. But when it comes to trusting God when circumstances are impossible, that’s not quite as easy. When things are beyond repair, when things have gone too far, when we reach a place of irreconcilable difference, when our future has been destroyed, how do we trust God then? When our backs are against the wall, when we have run out of alternatives, perhaps we have tried plan A, plan B, C, D, E …Z, what then? I believe that we can trust and believe God against ALL odds. How do we trust God for the impossible?

AVOID RESIGNATION AND ACCEPTANCE AND GIVING UP

During the II World War, as the Nazi’s began to dominate, a movement arose in England calling for capitulation and negotiation with Hitler. He appeared too strong and many of the British people felt that surrender would be better than a humiliating defeat. The then Prime Minister of Britain tried to develop relationships with Hilter with this in mind. Onto this scene Winston Churchill emerges, and this is what He had to say! Winston Churchill speech:

‘Even though large parts of Europe and many old and famous States have fallen or may fall into the grip of the Gestapo and all the odious apparatus of Nazi rule, we shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender, and if, which I do not for a moment believe, this Island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God’s good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the Old.’
There was no resignation or acceptance in his words or his tone. He was not living in denial. But it was almost as if he lived with a sense of victory. When it comes to trusting God, you and I must not just capitulate and resign ourselves to our apparent fate, we must believe and within our hearts there must be a sense of prevailing victory. This inspite of our situations and circumstances.
