The wonderful promise of the Christian faith is the fact that we can one day be ‘at home with the Lord’ for eternity. We need to constantly remind ourselves of the fact that we are eternal spiritual beings having a temporary earthly experience. This world is not our home.
Hebrews 13:14 ‘For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come.’
Everything about life is temporary and everything about eternity is eternal. The Bible tells us that we are foreigners, aliens, strangers and sojourners.
1 Peter 2:11 ‘Friends, this world is not your home, so don’t make yourselves cozy in it. Don’t indulge your ego at the expense of your soul.’
2 Corinthians 5:8 ‘Yes, we are fully confident, and we would rather be away from these earthly bodies, for then we will be at home with the Lord.’ NLT
This verse contains the word ‘then’. When we are away from these earthly bodies, THEN, we will be at home with the Lord. This is home in the truest sense of the word. This is where we really belong. This is where eternity will not be long enough to enjoy the extraordinary feeling of quality of life and well-being. Oh the joy of spending eternity with the Lord!
