The Ten Commandments is divided into two sections [Two Tablets]:
SECTION 1: THE FOUR LAWS GOVERNING OUR RELATIONSHIP TO GOD.
No. 1: “Thou shalt have no other Gods before me.”
Have you ever transgressed this law?
No. 2: “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.”
Have you ever broken this law?
No. 3: “Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.”
Have you ever broken this law?
No. 4: “Remember the Sabbath Day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it.

SECTION 2: THE SIX LAWS GOVERNING OUR RELATIONSHIP TO MAN.
No. 5: “Honour thy father and mother; that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
Have you ever broken this law? When last did you contact your mother and father?
No. 6: “Thou shalt not kill.”
Have you ever broken this law?
No. 7: “Thou shalt not commit adultery.”
Have you ever broken this law? How about the following statement of Jesus:
Matthew 5:27-28? “Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, that whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.”
No. 8: “Thou shalt not steal.”
Have you ever broken this law?
No. 9: “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. [Could be stated as – thou shalt not lie].
Have you ever broken this law?
No. 10: Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, or his manservant, not his maidservant, not his ox, nor his ass [this also means his vehicle, his mode of transport] nor anything that is thy neighbours.
Have you ever broken this law?
James 2:10 “For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, is guilty of all.” In the sense that once we have broken the law we are guilty and as a result fall under its judgement.
A long, honest look at the Law of God soon reveals that we ALL have a massive problem! SIN! Let’s go back to our text and see what it says was the reason for Jesus coming.
1 John 3:5 “And ye KNOW that HE WAS MANIFESTED TO TAKE AWAY OUR SINS; and in him is no sin.”
