When I was at school I used to be part of a brass band. I learnt what it was like to flow together with other musicians. The thing that amazed me the most was that as we were warming up we all made a noise and played a different tune, but as the conductor stood up, everything changed. From that point on we flowed together and produced something special. As we do this in our lives we have to put aside our own ideas and agendas and move to the conductors instruction.
Mark 8:34 Then he called his disciples and the crowds to come over and listen. “If any of you wants to be my follower,” he told them, “you must put aside your own pleasures and shoulder your cross, and follow me closely.
If we are going to keep in step with God we need to follow the beat of His drum. We need to flow to His rhythm.
Psalm 1:1-2 Oh, the joys of those who do not follow evil men’s advice, who do not hang around with sinners, scoffing at the things of God. 2But they delight in doing everything God wants them to, and day and night are always meditating on his laws and thinking about ways to follow him more closely.
To be able to march to His beat we, we first need to be able to hear His beat. As we experience His presence in our lives, we begin to hear that beat and in the process we can walk in step with Him
Galatians 5:25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. (NIV)
