Our motivation and the motives for why we do things are important to God. God takes note of these motives in our hearts. He examines and He weighs and He exposes these motives. We may think we will get away with it, but God is watching closely. This is not because He wants to catch us, but because He wants to bring us to a point where our motives and motivation is pure and righteous.

1 Corinthians 4:5 When the Lord comes, He will bring our deepest secrets to light and will reveal our private motives. And then God will give to everyone whatever praise is due. (LIVING)
2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear and be revealed as we are before the judgement seat of Christ, so that each one may receive (his pay) according to what he has done in the body, whether good or evil (considering what his purpose and motive have been).
