Bondage is any situation where something other has power over you. Bondage according to the Greek meaning is some form or brand of slavery. Bondage is enslavement to something. It speaks of captivity and oppression.
Bondage is the subjection of something to conditions that are unpleasant. In yesterday’s post we see two different situations of bondage. The first was bondage for a whole nation in the form of oppression and the second bondage for an individual in the form of a ‘spirit of infirmity.’
CHOICES CAN CAUSE BONDAGE
Our choices are extremely important. God has given us a free will and this leads to a lifetime of choices. Each day is a series of choices and every action is the result of choice. When we make good and right choices it leads to life and freedom. When we make bad or wrong choices it leads to some form of bondage.
Judges 3:12 ‘Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord, and because they did this evil the Lord gave Eglon king of Moab power over Israel.’
Here we see how their choices brought them into bondage. Choices are things we should take very seriously. God’s plan for our lives gives us the opportunity of choice. Perhaps it is the only way to learn and grow and become more like Him. We have to act wisely in this regard. Choice is a responsibility. We need to live intentionally and in a considered way.
We should not be irrational or reactionary.
Quote: ‘Each of us has the responsibility to choose. You may ask, ‘Are decisions really that important?’ I say to you, decisions determine destiny. You can’t make eternal decisions without eternal consequences.’ President Thomas S. Monson.
