Freedom is God’s plan and purpose for each of His children. The stories of the Bible are an on-going illustration of the Creator’s endeavours to bring His creation out of bondage and into freedom in union with Him.
If we look at the story of Exodus and how God brought the nation of Israel out of bondage and slavery in Egypt and eventually into the Promised Land. This freedom is His desire for us as individuals, groups and nations.
Galatians 5:1 ‘It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.’
John 8:36 ‘So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.’
As we realise that HIS plan for us is freedom, we should not settle for any form of bondage, because that would be less than God’s best for our lives.
OLD TESTAMENT:
Judges 3:12-15 Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord, and because hey did this evil the Lord gave Eglon king of Moab power over Israel, and they took possession on the City of Palms. The Israelites were subject to Eglon king of Moab for eighteen years. Again the Israelites cried out to the Lord and He gave them a deliverer.
NEW TESTAMENT:
Luke 13:10-13 On a Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues, and a woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not straighten up at all. When Jesus saw her, He called her forward and said to her, “Woman, you are set free from your infirmity.” Then He put His hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God.
