Isaiah 30:1 ‘Woe to the obstinate children, declares the Lord, to those who carry out plans that are not mine, forming an alliance, but not by my Spirit heaping sin upon sin.’
God desires that we should know the Holy Spirit and be lead by Him. The Holy Spirit has been given to us to lead and to guide us into what God has for us. What God has for us is the best thing for us. Anything else will end up costing too much. ‘Forming an alliance, but not by my Spirit …. ’ Our alliances and connections are important to God. How often Christians form alliances that are not of God’s Spirit. EXAMPLE: Marriage alliances, friendship alliances, and business alliances. God’s plan is that we will be lead by His Spirit in all aspects of our lives.
Doing our own thing can lead to sin. Pursuing this course of action results in accumulating sin on sin. This is the scary bit. Some people think that they can do just as they see fit and God must close the door if it is not right. God is a gracious God and He will do this from time to time, BUT He wants us to desire His plans and the direct leading of His Holy Spirit. We cannot willfully live outside the will of God and get away with it.
