The first thing that Jesus asked of this one individual was about the whereabouts of the others. “Where are the nine? Why did not they return to give thanks?’’ This intimates that ingratitude is a very common sin. Of the many that receive mercy from God, there are but a few, very few, that return, to give thanks in a right manner (scarcely one in ten). God has done so much for us and we need to be thankful.
If I look back on my own life I can just marvel at what God has done and at how He has used my family and me. I could never have imagined that God could do such a marvelous thing. I remember years back how God gave my father a promise:
Habakkuk 1:5 Look among the nations and watch—Be utterly astounded! For I will work a work in your days, which you would not believe, though it were told you.
That is exactly what God went on to do. It is important that we, from time to time, look back and reflect on what God has done and that we allow this to generate thankfulness within us.
Psalm 105:1 Give thanks to the LORD, call on His name; make known among the nations what He has done.
