The joy is that Jesus makes a way for us to get back to that place where He is our first love, first priority and our all.
Numbers 21:8-9 And the Lord said to Moses, Make a fiery serpent [of bronze] and set it on a pole; and everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live. And Moses made a serpent of bronze and put it on a pole, and if a serpent had bitten any man, when he looked to the serpent of bronze [attentively, expectantly, with a steady and absorbing gaze], he lived.
In this amazing story God provides a way out of this situation. You see, the serpent is a picture of sin. This representation of sin was placed on a wooden pole and those who looked up at this object were healed. This was a picture of what would happen many years later. Jesus would be made sin for us and hung on a cross and those who looked to Him would be saved.
In the same way, when you and I lift our vision off of what is surrounding us, we can be saved from much suffering and pain. Keeping Jesus in Focus is our saving grace.
