Our faith walk: a race

Daily Thought

Your Word for 26 July 2024

Psalm 143:10
‘Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God. May Your gracious Spirit lead me forward on a firm footing.’

overcome to overcomer

Hebrews 12:1 ‘And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.’ In the Amplified Bible it says: ‘and let us run with patient endurance and steady and active persistence the appointed course of the race that is set before us!’

The term RACE speaks of an athletic contest, but the Greek original is wider than this and it speaks of a ‘struggle in the soul’.  The original Greek word is ‘agon’ and we get the English word agony from this word.
We are given some keys in handling the race!

  • We must run with PATIENT ENDURANCE.
  • We must run with STEADT AND ACTIVE PERSISTANCE.
  • We must run THE APPOINTED COURSE SET BEFORE US. We can’t and should not try to run someone else’s race.
