THEY WERE KNOWN FOR THEIR FAITH IN JESUS
Colossians 1:4 We have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus.
This could mean that they had placed their faith in Jesus to save them. It could also mean that they had learned to place their faith in Jesus for everything they needed. I long to be full of faith.
Hebrews 11:6 says that ‘without faith it is impossible to please God’
Romans 1:17 says, ‘the just shall live by faith’
We need to have a reputation for our faith.
THEY WERE KNOWN FOR THEIR LOVE
Colossians 1:4 We have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all the saints.
There must have been a real love between these people. They had a reputation for their love. Perhaps they cared for and looked after each other. Perhaps they had a deep concern for each other’s well being. We must look for opportunities to show love and kindness to others. We can have a reputation for our love. I know people like this and they are a great blessing.
THEY WERE KNOWN FOR THEIR HOPE
Colossians 1:5 The faith and love that spring from the hope that is stored up for you in heaven and that you have already heard about in the word of truth, the gospel, that has come to you.
The word hope in the Bible usually points forward to Heaven and the return of Jesus. The hope of the Bible is always a sure hope – something that is definite. We cannot live without hope. It is an essential component in life. Real hope comes when we hear the truth about Jesus.
THEY WERE KNOWN FOR THEIR FRUIT
Colossians 1:6 All over the world this gospel is bearing fruit and growing, just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it.
BEARING FRUIT AND GROWING. What a great reputation, a great reputation to have. This church was productive and growing. Can people say this of our lives? Are we individuals who are bearing fruit and growing? We can and we should be.
