We all want to be seen as respectable Christians. We want to be known as people you live the respectable Christian lifestyle. But how can we live like this if we are in relationship with the creator of the universe? We never want to be seen as fanatics. We want to be well controlled. We stay so well controlled that there are very few waves of glory that we experience. We reduce our Christianity to a good lifestyle when it should be a radical relationship. Let’s look at the advice we find in the Word of God.
Hebrews 12:1-2 Since we have such a huge crowd of men of faith watching us from the grandstands, let us strip off anything that slows us down or holds us back, and especially those sins that wrap themselves so tightly around our feet and trip us up; and let us run with patience the particular race that God has set before us.
There are things that can hold us back or stop us from progressing. We need to deal with these things and realize that they are tools that the devil uses to hold us back. The instruction is to ‘strip off’ things that can hold us back. This is a ruthless action. It does not even sound gentle and respectable. It calls for a concerted effort. God has something for us and we must not allow anything to get in the way of the race that God has especially for you and me.
