Jesus gives us The Golden Rule in Matthew 7:12. [NIV]
“IN EVERYTHING, DO TO OTHERS WHAT YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO TO YOU!”
Most of us would like people to apply this rule to us! Most of us would like to live by this rule! For, in so doing, barriers are broken down and relationships are built up. It results in God’s love being shed abroad and it brings joy and peace. Yet, it is one of the most difficult laws to actually put into practice. This is possibly the case, because it is so foreign to our old selfish, sinful natures.
This Golden Rule sums up in one sentence everything that Jesus taught!
Wherever this Rule is put into practice true healing comes. It brings healing in church relationships, in family relationships, in business relationships and in all other relationships. It overcomes all the harshness of legalism. It gives all of us scope to develop and mature. It makes us tender, forgiving and accommodating. It takes the sting out of our speech and the radicalism out of our reactions. It rids us of all spitefulness, resentment and revenge. It makes us more like Jesus!
TRY IT!  IT WORKS!
Isn’t it amazing that preachers very seldom preach on this text?
Isn’t it amazing that so few people seriously and actually live by this rule?
Would YOU be prepared to allow Jesus to apply it to your way of living?
This is basic Christianity! This must be built into our lives if we want to live like Jesus wants us to live!
