Jesus, the baptiser in the Holy Spirit gives us the answer in John 7:37-38
“In the last day, that great day of the feast, JESUS stood and cried out saying, if any man THIRST, let him COME UNTO ME, and DRINK. He that BELIEVETH on ME, as the scripture hath said, out of his heart shall flow rivers of living water”.
You can be baptised in the Holy spirit right now if you will do what Jesus says. Take the four steps He has given.
Step 1. THIRST!
In all probability that has already taken place in you. Think for a moment how important it is for you to be filled with the Spirit. You cannot do without His Holy Spirit. Let your desire for the fullness of the Holy Spirit rise up in you like a tide. Imagine how you will be able to worship Him! Do you feel that tide rising? Don’t quench it!
Step 2. COME TO JESUS!
This you do by prayer. Approach Him as a friend. He says “if you draw near to Me I will draw near to you”. Spend some time before Lord worshipping and praising Him and then specifically ask Him to baptise you in the HOLY SPIRIT. Tell Him that He is the only one that can do it for you. Tell Him that in coming to Him you are doing exactly what He has commanded you to do. Imagine He is standing right there before you and that He is putting His hands upon you and that the power of His precious Holy Spirit is flowing into you. Don’t hurry this step. Just sit there in His presence and love and enjoy Him. Don’t set your mind on feelings and emotions. Set your mind on Jesus. Remember, you are coming to Him! As you wait on Him you can begin to move into the next step.
Step 3. DRINK!
That simply means KEEP ON RECEIVING. Relax in His presence. Let His Holy Spirit fall over you like a waterfall. Drink to your hearts content. Keep on drinking. It may be good in the process to yield your entire body to Him that He may fill you to overflowing. Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. It was created to be filled with the Spirit of God. Drinking is the process of receiving. You may have to do this over a period of days – it all depends on your ability to yield and receive. Drink! Drink! Keep on drinking! You were created for this purpose. As you drink you will be able to move on to the next step.
Step 4. HE THAT BELIEVETH ON ME!
As you receive and keep on receiving, with your mind’s eye set on Jesus the giver, you will sooner or later come to the place where your act of receiving will give way to a sense that you are in fact receiving and that God’s fullness has begun to flow into you. That means its time to express your thanks to the Lord. To begin to praise Him that He has done for you what you asked Him to do for you. This is what it means to BELIEVE! By now you should have stopped asking Him for the baptism and you should now be thanking Him for meeting your need. Let your thanking turn into PRAISE – a further expression of your faith. Keep on praising Him! Don’t let up! If you were to praise Him for a half an hour or so it would not be wasted.
In the process of praising Him you should expect that He will begin to fulfill His promise to you, “out of your heart SHALL FLOW RIVERS OF LIVING WATER”. Yes, it is as you praise and worship Him in faith that you can expect that He will begin to release a flow of a new language of praise to Him (also known as “speaking in tongues”). It could come by simply having unusual words come into your mind or by way of you being so lost in praise that you don’t even notice that you have moved into a new praise language. Once a language starts, no matter how simple it is, you should keep on speaking. It will develop as you surrender more and more to the Lord. It will not usually happen as an uncontrollable flow over you. It will be YOU speaking, it will be you using your faculties of speech. As it begins to flow, don’t analyze it, just enjoy the Lord.
Once you have experience a release keep on using it daily and it will result in you being built up in your spiritual life.
