What does it mean to be baptised into the body of Christ?

Daily Thought

Your Word for 20 December 2024

Isaiah 9:6
‘For a Child is born to us, a Son is given to us. He will be called: Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.’

1 Corinthians 12:13 says, “For by one SPIRIT (the Holy Spirit) are WE all baptised into ONE BODY (the church)…”

This described what happens to us when we become children of God.  Through a miracle the Holy Spirit we are baptised and grafted or united with the true Christians into the body of Christ.  This is a miracle of conversion or of being born again.
This of course is to be distinguished from the baptism in the Holy Spirit spoken of in Luke 3:16, where we read

“John answered saying…I indeed baptise you in water; but One mightier than I cometh…  He (Jesus) shall baptise YOU (the Christians) in the Holy Spirit…”

Note the difference!

WHO ARE BAPTISED? BY WHOM? INTOWHAT?
1 Cor 12:13 the unconverted the Spirit the body of Christ
Luke 3:16 the Christians Jesus the Holy Spirit
