‘So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ. For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority. In Him you were also circumcised with a circumcision not performed by human hands. Your whole self ruled by the flesh was put off when you were circumcised by Christ, having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised with Him through your faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; He has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.’
LIVE YOUR LIFE IN HIM
Colossians 2:6-7 ‘So then, just as you received Jesus Christ as Lord, continue to live your lives in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.’
As a child of God, Jesus should be all the world to us. Is Jesus all the world to you? How do we live our lives in Him?
A) BE ROOTED IN HIM
Let Him be your sure foundation and let Him be your rock. As believers we should be established, firm and fixed in Christ. We should not be blown around by every wind of doctrine. We should not be swayed by prevailing pressures. Our rooting or our anchoring should remain secure. We should not allow any form of eroding of our rooting to take place. Our roots should go down deep.
Colossians 2:7 ‘Let your roots grow down into Him!’
We should be rooted in Him.
B) BE BUILT UP IN HIM
Our lives should be built on Him.
Colossians 2:7 ‘Let your lives be built on Him.’
Our lives should be grounded on Him. This happens as we know His word and obey His word. Being built up speaks of an on-going process of becoming more and more like our precious Christ. We should follow His example. We should live our lives in such a way that it brings honour and praise to Him.
C) BE STRENGTHENED IN THE FAITH
Don’t give doubt a space in your life. Doubt your doubts and believe your faith. Believe with an even greater conviction.
Romans 4:20 ‘Yet he (Abraham) did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God.’
Be more persuaded than ever before.
D) BE THANKFUL
Thankfulness is a vital component of every believer’s life. Thankfulness causes us to appreciate all that He has done for us. Unthankfulness can cause us heartache and bitterness. By His great hand He has brought you to this point and the future is something that He will take care of, both in life and in eternity. Thankfulness opens the door to greater blessing, greater revelation and greater relationship.
