In business you find the concept of a ‘sleeping partner’. Sleeping partners invest money in the business and share in its profits, but do not take part in running it. They are uninvolved in the day to day management.
Often ‘sleeping partners’ are brought in for legal, financial or specialist functions. It is also known as a ‘silent partner’.
Many Christians live their lives in this way. They may even call God the ‘Senior Partner’, but they remain in control of all aspects of their lives and/or endeavors. God, is in effect, not active in their lives.
They need Him from a legal perspective to give them the right to get into heaven. They need Him from a financial perspective to bring provision and prosperity. They need Him for specialist functions, especially when trouble comes. But in essence they are doing fine on their own and they will call on Him should they need Him.
Luke 8:22-24 One day Jesus said to His disciples, “Let’s go over to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and set out. As they sailed, He fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger. The disciples went and woke Him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!” He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm.
Giving God control does not mean He is the ‘sleeping partner’ in our lives.
